Sunday's World Conversation Club was struck by technical difficulties. Sorry to Deddy from Indonesia, Robert from Poland, Unre from South Africa, Betterzuo from China, and everyone else who tried to connect and couldn't.

*** Please note change of time ***

The topic was 'Modern Life vs Traditional Culture' (Please see the discussion questions below) - Thanks to Unre for his comments. We will use this topic during the next Sunday WCC, although (as usual) we will be talking about other subjects as well.

Modern Life vs Traditional Culture

Do you think the world is losing its traditional culture?
Is everything in modern life better than it was?
What is left of traditional culture in your country?
Please think about a tradition to tell us about

Valuable cultural habits we rely upon in Africa

There are many cultural treasures from our rich diversity in South Africa!

1. The elder processes are alive in families and communities. In a family and a community, a conflict is noticed and an intervention happens. It is accepted since it is tradition! Should the first intervention not give a satisfactory outcome the process escalates to where people that are more senior get involved to bring mature expertise. A third round may happen, but that decision-making body is final.
The reasonable man is also alive and works the same way as the elder processes.
Many European oriented South Africans now learn the competencies from our more traditional people?

2. Traditional capitalism: When your cow as too much milk, you share the milk and get more cows, since others then look after them. You grow to significance since cows are the tools of investments and standing. We sometimes forget how community investment really works. We sometimes think Buffet and Bill Gates are the only heroes! Some then get very rich at the expense of the masses and then give all their money back to the people at the end of their lives.
We should be heroes all our lives as Warren Buffet and Bill Gates also were. They created new jobs, many rich people who created other rich people. They shared the milk and is still sharing. Thank you guys!

Cultural habits in Africa

Thanks for your comments Unre - I'm sorry we could not speak the last World Conversation Club - I'd love to speak to you about your ideas during a future webcast.

'Modern Life vs Traditional Culture'

Let us just replace the vs with and, and we get a tremendous change in thinking!
Todays modern is tomorrows traditional! All traditionals today follows some old change agent who was modern at the time.
Let us nurture the wealth in the traditional cultures and learn the maximum we can. Remember the beliefs, values evolved slowly, and services as well.
Let us embrace the future and make the best of it. The old and the new economies come to mind. We explored and moved to fast and we got the dotcom bubble. The value was real, but we ignored the rules of the real economy.
Undertsand rules or principles as Franklin Covey call it.
